Wisden Cricinfo staff12-May-2004On the final day of the latest round of Championship matches, there were wins for Warwickshire, Leicestershire, and Durham. Despite 184 from Mark Butcher, Surrey still slipped to defeat at Edgbaston, while Ottis Gibson, the former West Indian Test player, took 6 for 43 as Nottinghamshire were skittled out for 195 at Grace Road. The best performance of the day, however, was from another West Indian, Durham’s Gareth Breese. He scored a matchwinning 165 not out to mastermind a one-wicket win against Somerset. In the other games, Essex in the end clung on to an exciting draw at Cardiff, while Northants batted out a draw with Gloucestershire.
